Abakh Hoja Tomb: Tomb of the Fragrant Concubine

The story of the fragrant concubine is a window into Uyghur-Han relations. Both groups agree that she was among the most beautiful women in history, her scent was tantalizing and she was claimed as a concubine by the Chinese Emperor.
The tales diverge at the end. The Han maintain she lived a wonderful, happy life in the imperial palace. The Uyghur say she was so morose that she took her own life. Either way, her body was buried in her native Kashgar.
Regardless, the tomb is a large and important historical site, one that the Uyghurs have deep affection for.

The cemetery is still used today.

The building houses the graves of the fragrant concubine and many of her family members.

The complex also houses mosque-like spaces that seem like they could be used for prayers, but I'm not sure if Muslims pray here or not.

Please, read that sign on the lower left. These people know how to follow directions.
