The major tourist attractions in Beijing were wall-to-wall packed. P-A-C-K-E-D. At some point, we just kinda lost it and started photographing all of the Chinese tour groups around us, differentiated by their headgear.
Then, my mother started trying to blend in. Things were dicey at first. The presence of a newcomer, a foreigner, made the tour groups skittish.
But, by the end, she won their trust and was welcomed into the tribe.
