On our second day in Xi'an, the first stop was the site of a 6000 year old matriarchal neolithic village.
The things we found most interesting were the inhabitants’ social structure and short-term reproductive-only use for men. We were told that a man would get a woman pregnant, help her build a house, then split, leaving her to care for the child. At the same time, the women ran the village and the men just kinda drifted in and out.
Most of what we learned came from the signage, models, and the video, as only remnants of the village foundations were left.
The inhabitants made pottery.
