The Muslim Quarter and Leaving Xi'an for Kashgar

We stopped by the Muslim Quarter in Xi'an on our way to the airport. Xi'an has a substantial muslim population, with their own mosque, market and slice of the city.

Here are some Muslim shops and snacks, and some goose eggs. Goose eggs are bluish. We didn't try the rice pudding, but it looked pretty tasty. Also, people sell steamed corn all over China, it's a standard street snack. We did buy some of that super-spicy snack mix, and it was delicious.

Here's a woman whipping up one of Yue's much-loved corned beef sandwiches. Give Yue some corned beef sandwiches, a flute and a competitive ping pong circuit, and he's happy.

We took a tour of an old, rich man's house. Some of the signs made me smile.

The tour began with a ridiculous shadow puppet show. We sat through it, now you can, too.

The "Room of the Master's Son" was filled with to the brim with drug paraphernalia, but there weren't dirty clothes on the floor, so I guess the comparison ends there.

After the tour, we continued to wander through the market.

We bought some noodles for the plane ride to Kashgar. This is how they were made. Sorry for the sideways video. When I figure out how to flip it, I will flip it.

Here I am in the airport, eating the noodles. dried kiwis and spicy snack mix we bought.

After the market, we hit the Xi'an's Great Mosque, the center of the Muslim Quarter. A group of schoolgirls were running around, filling out some sort of assignment on the mosque. It gave the place a little bit of buzz and joy.

On the way to the airport, Yue breaks it down on the flute he bought at the market. If anyone in Xi'an is trying to pull together a Jethro Tull cover band, I've found your rock flute.
I'll miss Yue. He's quite a renaissance man. Now, we're off to Kashgar.
