Tiananmen Square

I'm sure we all know the history here. I don't want to rehash anything and get re-educated, so if you need a refresher, do some googling. Right between our heads is the famous picture of Mao that hangs over the square. It gets repainted every year by a Chinese artist, and it is a great honor to be selected. It looks the same every year.

Today, with visits to Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City, felt like warfare. The crowds felt endless. We weren't so interested in seeing Mao, the museum was one of the countless attractions "under renovation" and, with the crush of people all around us, we fairly quickly headed off to the Forbidden City.

This, of course, was the line to get in.
